The Downtown Dover Partnership (DDP) has partnered with Colonial Parking to install parking meters in Downtown Dover.  Parking fees have not been determined, but $1.00 per hour is probable.  This fee would extend to residents, workers, and downtown shoppers.  Colonial Parking would install the meters and take a portion of the revenue.  The removal process is unclear if it turns out to negatively impact downtown.

We suggest addressing crime, lighting, and safety in the current parking lots that go unused now.  We also believe the timing for this is terrible.  Most merchants and residents are coming off of the worst financial year of their lives.  Many residents still do not have full-time employment.  We agree that Downtown Dover will benefit from a reassessment of parking availability and new parking access is needed.  We do not support parking meters as the first and only answer to this complex question.

Parking must be safe.  Parking must be accessible and centrally located.  Currently, parking is poorly marked and spread out over multiple small and minimally used lots.  We further suggest that this be a city council addressed issue since it impacts economic viability, traffic, tourists, merchants, and residents of the entire city, not just downtown.
