You can right-click-save the previews to your desktop. These have watermarks. If you don’t want to pay money and insist on downloading, that’s your best bet. If they never touch the internet, Getty’s not going to care and can’t really find you anyway.

Getty makes a selection of images available to embed via HTML in a non-commercial website or blog: search Embed-enabled images. This is their preferred/legal/licensed route. Theoretically the photographers get some sort of compensation for embed impressions but I have no idea how that works.

The Getty business model doesn’t allow the bulk of their stock library to be used for free. Even the watermarked images you can right-click can get your website a DMCA takedown notice, or a copyright infringement lawsuit.

If your use is not on an ad-driven website, then you can embed images so that it automatically has the right caption and a click references back to Getty as the source. Let me repeat: a totally non-commercial website, not a blog running ads (even if those are not ads that are paying you).

Getty actually pays the photographers who have been recruited to submit stock photographer enough to make a living wage and keep their equipment maintained. These are professional images, which cost money to produce. The models in these images were paid upfront. The images come with releases so you can use them in ads and other commercial uses without the risk of the subject of the photo suing you for appropriating their image without permission.

Getty can’t offer that for free and will defend against misuse of their library.
