Let Dover Play

This petition is to strongly request that the Dover Superintendent and Dover Board of Education reinstate the Fall 2020 sports season for DHS student athletes.  The decision was made without input from parents and players.  The school district has taken the important decision to allow or not allow their players to play, away from the parents by canceling the Fall sports season.

The NJSIAA has provided protocols to keep athletes safe while participating in each sport, and although a school district chooses to conduct full virtual learning, its sports season can remain in place.

Experts know that physical activity is a powerful antidepressant and extremely important in emotional well-being.  Due to current cancelations and closures, studies show that many athletes are suffering from anxiety, and sometimes even depression, with the forced absence of sports in their lives.

Varsity athletes rely on their junior and senior sports seasons to promote their talents, with the hope of increasing interest from college coaches and potentially being offered college scholarships.  By canceling the Fall 2020 sports season, the upperclassmen lose all opportunity to do this.

Based on this information and for the well-being of our student athletes, this petition once again is to strongly request the Dover Superintendent and Board of Education to reinstate the Fall 2020 sports season.
