Protect Our Paradise started this petition to Douglas Shire Council and

A seven storey $60 million resort complex is proposed for Port Douglas.

TIME TO ACT!

If this development proceeds, expect high-rise overdevelopment throughout the Douglas Shire.

The development is more than double the permitted height, will clear 100% of wildlife and vegetation in a highly visible signature location and will ruin Four Mile Beach Esplanade, Flagstaff Hill and access to the iconic Port Douglas Look Out.

The unique values of our Shire and Port Douglas’ laidback tropical village feel have been fiercely protected by the community, recognised through international eco accreditation, and enshrined in the Douglas Shire Planning Scheme.

The proposed Gurner development violates the codes of the Douglas Planning Scheme in many ways.

We acknowledge that most of the land proposed for the development is under freehold title, and that the owner has the right to develop his land.

We are, however, deeply concerned with the design elements, scale and intensity that do not comply with our local Planning Scheme.

To facilitate the resort, the developer needs to purchase a significant community resource from the State.

That land is part of the Jalun Park reserve, which provides community access to Four Mile Beach, the Esplanade, and the Flagstaff Hill Walking Track.

We are therefore petitioning the Douglas Shire Council and the Queensland Government for the following:

DOUGLAS SHIRE COUNCIL

Do not permit development applications that breach the Douglas Shire Planning Scheme.

QLD STATE GOVERNMENT

Do not allow a community reserve to be destroyed for private gain.

If this development is approved, expect high rise development throughout the Douglas Shire.

Please PROTECT OUR PARADISE and sign this petition.
