Canterbury City Council proposal to extend the summer dog ban on Tankerton Beach

Canterbury City Council is proposing to extend the area covered by the summer 'dog ban' and the 'dogs on lead' rule along Tankerton Beach. Currently, the ban starts from 'The Street' to the steps in front of 'The Royal'. The Council are looking to extend this area along the length of the beach until 'Long Rock', which is beyond the skateboard park.

This means that dogs will need to be kept on the lead at all times during this period (1st May to 30th Sept), and will not be allowed off the lead to swim in the sea.

The formal consultation has concluded, but no final decision has yet been made. We have received an email from Douglas Rattray, Head of Safer Neighbourhoods, Canterbury City Council, which reads as follows: "Public Space Protection Order Dog Control Tankerton. I would like to advise you, that in light of your representation against the proposed order and your view that you did not get ample opportunity to make your comment before, we intend to run a new consultation exercise on the Tankerton Proposal to ensure that we are fully informed on public opinion on the matter before we make a final decision. Details of this will be made known shortly."

Please sign this petition against the extension of this ban. Please also make your views known by sending an email to douglas.rattray@canterbury.gov.uk and local councillors, and so hopefully we can at least be consulted on any proposals.
