Why this petition matters

Here at Mercer University, we pay approximately $52,000 (plus tax) to attend school here and receive a higher education. When we came here for our orientation, the university promised us and our guardians that we'd be choosing to live four years of our lives on a safe, conveniently-sized campus where we would all major in Making the World a Better Place.

However, I feel as if we have been heavily short-changed by the university's administration in more than one way. Our dorms are predominantly old buildings, the WiFi on campus isn't very consistent, the parking on campus has proven to not be reliable, and the MERPO does not always live up to the standard of being actual sworn in officers of the law, determined to care for us all.

Several complaints have been made to the university over the course of years in the past, yet no visible change has occurred. I aim to hold Mercer University accountable for their shortcomings and force them to actually live up to the promises they made us and our parents. I move that a parking deck be built on campus where the number of residents far outnumber the available spaces (e.g. Sherwood Hall's lot), that newer fiber optic cables are installed all over campus to help grant the student body and faculty better access to the Internet, and that more building renovations are conducted over the next decade.

I'm not only fighting for the current student body here, I'm also fighting for the future Mercerians who will one day grace the campus we walk. So join me, Desmond Palmer (Class of 2024), in holding Mercer University accountable and live up to the price we pay to attend this institution.
