On average, homework does nothing for a child's intelligence, and as a matter of fact, can start to harm the student's mental health. (https://www.healthline.com/health-news/children-more-homework-means-more-stress-031114#1 Not only is it bad for children's mental health, but it also takes time away from something they could be doing, like hanging out with their family, or playing with friends. If a student misses a day of school, they are usually not able to get the homework done because they do not understand the subject, especially in arithmetic. For ELA (English Language Arts), students can spend a lot more time doing homework relating to the subject than even math, as sometimes they have to read, or answer questions that require extremely deep thinking. In conclusion, we need to get rid of, or at least regulate homework in school districts, as it does not benefit anyone, it takes time away from students' days, and can have a toll on mental health.
