Gabrielle Ross started this petition to Douglas County School System

This petition is for the dress code policies and rules at Chapel Hill High School. Currently the dress code is heavily enforced on the young ladies of this institution, We, the students of Chapel Hill, would like to modify some of the rules to promote a more progressive and inclusive environment. The current policy enforced for the dress code is to avoid distraction from education. The suggested apparel changes are important to the students of Chapel Hill High School because we believe in freedom of expression and tasteful comfortability. The current rules cause us to feel restricted during major events and during the school day.

   Current Apparel Restrictions Include:

  • no shoulders showing
  • no back showing
  • no midriff showing
  • no rips above the knee in jeans
  • no tights/biker shorts

New Apparel Recommendations:

  • shoulders able to show as long as strap is thicker than 2 inches
  • being able to show our back as long as higher than 3 inches above the waist
  • midriff able to show as long as within 3 inches of the waistband
  • rips allowed in jeans as long as there is not a hole larger than 3 inches vertically
  • able to wear leggings and biker short with a shirt to cover our bottom

These changes will apply to school attire and school events. Chapel Hill students are also planning a protest during the school day, the date is September 8th.
