We have this capstone project that is mandatory for all seniors that has an 8 page requirement and on top of that we have a normal schedule with assignments and other things. But this project is the only assignment that makes or breaks your grade, so what is the point of having these other assignments that don’t even matter. This project is by no means is for students, the only thing close to this in future is maybe preparing your thesis for whatever major you are trying to graduate with. But that is totally different, because those people has 4+ years of specified education in that field learning all different aspects of their major. This project is just two month of trying to find a random topic and finding a bunch of sources associated with that topic, cramming that much work in two months where others get multiple years is insane. This creates nothing but stress and anxiety for students who are just trying to get through the last part of their high school career. This format needs to change immediately, maybe by taking the project out all together and just have a normal class where the teacher assigns their homework, class work, and if they decide, a project of their design. If they do decide to do a project I highly doubt they would assign an 8 page project. Their project might be 5 pages max because no teacher in their right mind would give a student an 8 page paper over a period of two - three months. Or another solution would be to only focus on the paper during the semester and not have as much or any assignments while we work on the paper. Because if you are going to have an assignment this large, the teacher should help us through it and be more involved than what my teacher is doing, now I can’t speak for other teachers because I don’t know how they go about this project but mine sure as heck isn’t using the appropriate method with this project.
