Douglas County School Board
Why this petition matters
Started by Student Charlotte Avery
Now, especially with the change in school board, students right to what they can read is being threatened. Books such as “They Both Die At The End”, are being called too immature for not having a heteronormative couple, and books such as “Call Me American” are overlooked with the violence, xenophobia, and racism filling these pages. As highschool students, we enjoy our ability to read what we like and express ourselves in this way. Just like theatre and art, we should be able to enjoy good interesting books that teach us about the world. We call to Douglas County School Board, to continue letting us read these books and not limit our freedoms and expression during Battle of Books and the books provided in the library.
