Let Our Voices Be Heard (A petition against closing Albany High School in Albany, Ga)

The Dougherty County School System Board of Education has finalized the decision to close Albany High School. Albany High School serves as a historical landmark in Albany, Georgia and as the Teepee for thousands of Chiefs, Indians and Squaws. DCSS presented a proposal stating the system will save 1.1 million dollars each year by closing the school and rezoning students to other local high schools. What they didn't mention was the impact this will have on our community. Students will be torn from those that they've built bonds with in the middle of their high school years. Teachers will lose their jobs. Classrooms will soon be overcrowded. What about our Magnet Program? Saving money should not be the sole reason for the closing of Albany High School, tossing away millions of our tax paying dollars that were spent on recent major renovations. This will be a blow to a community that is still trying to heal and repair itself after the January storms.
