Prevent the poor treatment of Walmart factory workers
Big corporations like Walmart are using overseas factories with horrific conditions to manufacture their products.
We want to change that.
Signing this petition will allow us to confront Walmart about this terrible injustice by directly alerting their CEO our displeasure with their actions
What is happening:
There have been many human rights violations in the factories where Walmart products, specifically clothes, are manufactured. Employees in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, and Indonesia are making clothes for Walmart under intensive labor exploitation and abuse. Factories use contracts that make it so workers are susceptible to unsafe working conditions and low wages. They are denied benefits and are harshly punished for engaging in union activity. Many of them risk losing their jobs if they try to stand up to the company.
What we want:
We are just two high school students who want to try to make a difference in the world however we can. We simply want to confront Walmart about these conditions in an attempt to help the workers being exploited in these factories.
In 2019, Walmart's total revenue was $514.4 billion for the year.
Considering they are making so much money, it seems wrong that they are paying workers so little since they can clearly afford better pay for their workers and safer conditions.
What else you can do to help:
- Avoid buying clothes from Walmart if possible, or try to only buy products from them that were made in countries with strict labor laws that are enforced
- Contact Walmart to express your displeasure with how their overseas factory workers are treated
Don't be a bystander. Take action.
