Let's urge the government to allow family members to visit their loved ones in Long Term Care Homes, while wearing the proper protective equipment, in specific cases where extra care is needed. Many of us have loved ones who rely on us to help them with feeding, and staff at nursing homes are struggling to keep up. Since March 15, 2020, I was no longer allowed to help my mother with the feeding assistance that she desperately needed. After weeks of struggling, I was told she was at the end of her life and I was finally allowed to see her shortly before she died. She did not die due to COVID-19 but rather as a result of the restrictions which prevented her from receiving extra help.

The Minister of Health, the Premier of Ontario (and other provinces), the Minister of Long Term Care and the Prime Minister need to give nursing homes the power to make these important decisions before more of our vulnerable seniors die. Many Long Term Care homes rely on assistance from family members and private caregivers to help, and by shutting them out during the pandemic, the residents are the ones suffering!
