I am writing as our youth are being taken away a big part of their right of passage to becoming drivers in Ontario. We were told that our teenagers are no longer allowed to do their drivers education driving hours in the vehicle with the instructor. They have always been one instructor and one student driver in the vehicle at all times, and they have also been required to wear masks the entire time they are in said vehicle. Now they are denied their driving hours to finish their courses, and if they take their road test, they can still do so but they are not allowed to use the instructors vehicle anymore. Which makes absolutely no sense at all as when they are taking their road test they are to be in the vehicle with the examiner. This is a huge milestone for our teenagers and it has been ripped away from them. I am disappointed with our system failing our children, its bad enough they have been through so much emotional trauma in the past two years, to take this away from them it horrible. My daughter was half way through her course hours and she was be doing her exit exam at the end of the month, now we have no idea what to do as we can no longer use the vehicle we paid to use and she hasn't been able to learn all of the information and road rules from her course for her to complete the test feeling confident in her abilities. She has already waited long enough for this. Put them back in the vehicles to get this milestone done. The commercial students are able to continue with their driving hours to finish their course our children should be able to do the same.
