Why this petition matters

Started by Jenna Goldsack

In 2019, the Ford government increased classes and cut funding. In the 2021 budget, the Ford government underfunded schools by an additional $1.3 billion and is continuing to cut funding by the same amount over the next decade (OECTA,2021).

With the increased losses to education amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic, including online learning modules as the number one form of education, students need more resources now than ever before. Increased educational services, school counselling, and mental health services are just a few of the necessary resources that require funding. The Ford government however, is making cuts that will affect these services moving forward. These cuts will not only harm students and their future academic success, but it will also negatively impact the teachers who are currently working, and who will be working in schools in the future.

At this rate of deterioration towards education, these cuts will impact how future educators teach, the way they teach, and those whom we teach. The children being taught today will be your future Prime Minister, doctors, and educators. These cuts will make it harder for these students to reach their fullest potential while in school- that's an issue!

With your support in this petition, we can fight these pay cuts.

Thank you.
