I am fighting for schools to be opened regionally because I believe that students should be able to be in person, as long as the cases in that region are low. I believe that mental health is the most important, and if schools aren’t open, kids’ mental health just get keep worsening. Throughout my time on online learning, I have had to go to the emergency mental health room several times. I was in a deep dark place that I bought I could never get out of, and I know I’m not the only one who has a story like mine.

If we were to open up school, kids would be able to say goodbye to their friends and have a good time before summer break, students would be able to have the social interaction all kids need. However, if kids don’t go back, that can lead to more problems, Ontario is already in a mental health crisis, not having in-person learning will just make it worse.

Many people are affected if we don’t go back to in-person learning, not just the students, parents and other family members, caregivers, teachers, EAs, and many others. Health professionals have suggested that students return to in-person learning for the remainder of the school year, because their research shows that kids being in person is best for their mental health.
