EVENT RENTAL/ DESIGN/ DÉCOR/ FLORAL/ PLANNING INDUSTRY

Premiere Doug Ford,

The undersigned companies are writing to seek your assistance to help the event industry in Greater Toronto Area survive the COVID-19 pandemic.  We represent a cross-section of our industry, local, privately owned businesses, floral companies, event rental companies, including furniture and dinnerware suppliers, caterers, photographers, event spaces and event planners.  We have all seen our revenues reduced to near zero since March 2020.  While other industries have suffered similarly, what sets us apart is that due to the nature of our business - large gatherings in closed spaces - provincial health restrictions are likely to prevent a restart of our businesses until a vaccine is found (that is, the end of 2020 at the earliest).

The assistance we have received from different levels of government to date, including payroll assistance, rent relief and property tax deferrals, has been crucial and greatly appreciated, but those programs are limited in time, and so we must request further assistance.  Long after other industries have returned to normal operations, we will be forced to remain closed.  Our industry is amongst the hardest hit.  We continue to have financial obligations – to our employees, our landlords, utility companies and others – but we have no revenues to satisfy them.  Sadly, many in our industry will not survive this pandemic without continued government financial assistance.

As the Premiere, we request your assistance in seeking this support, and would appreciate an opportunity to speak with you at your earliest convenience.  On behalf of the undersigned, we ask that you contact Mina Fierro, Enza Fierro and Anna Brandes Have A Seat Inc., info@haveaseat.ca, 416-633-4447  so that we may set up such a call.
