Condemn 'The Line Canada' and their attempt to scapegoat Muslims via a 'fake Eid' Prayer
Why this petition matters
***The Canadian Muslim Covid-19 Task Force (CMCTF) has denounced this "Proper Eid Prayer" event as a non-Muslim-led, anti-mask, anti-lockdown gathering. Additionally, the CMCTF states that this event threatens, "the health and wellbeing of Muslims."
A group called "The Line Canada" has organized a fake "Proper Eid Prayer" event in a thinly veiled attempt to trick Muslims into violating Covid restrictions for one of their largest religious holidays post-Ramadan.
Alt-right and white supremacist rhetoric within the "freedom rally" or anti-mask circuit have consistently blamed or pointed to Muslims as not following covid restrictions- this is false. This is an example of scapegoating.
One of the largest examples of covid restriction defiance in Canada is the Grace Life Church outside of Edmonton, Alberta where Anti-maskers, hate groups, and politicians such as Maxime Bernier rushed to defend.
This petition is calling on Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to condemn "The Line Canada" and their actions. We demand that the Ford Government address this, and critically examine the harms brought about by the enforcement of pandemic restrictions and provide race-based data on ticketing.
Why are these groups allowed to continually protest and shirk public health guidelines while BIPOC people are ticketed, surveilled, and scapegoated by white nationalists?
We demand action and we demand change.
We are calling on our representatives to speak out against this, to address mechanisms of online hate that allow these groups to organize. These groups utilize social media as a tool to target racialized communities, and as such we CONDEMN "The Line Canada" and any supporting or in attendance.
