Doug Ford is cancelling Ontario's 50 Million Tree Program that aimed to plant 50 million trees in the province. This will lead to the loss of jobs and environmental benefits that forests provide such as carbon sequestration, cleaning the air and water, protecting shorelines and reducing erosion.

About 40% forest cover is needed to ensure forest sustainability, according to Rob Keen, CEO of Forests Ontario. The average in southern Ontario is 26%, with some areas as low as 5%.

The program budget was approximately $4.7 million and Forests Ontario was told it was being cancelled as a way to cut provincial costs.

NDP natural resources and forestry critic Judith Monteith-Farrell said cancelling the 50 Million Tree Program puts Ontarians at risk."Fewer trees will mean more air and water pollution, more erosion in flood zones, less habitat for wildlife and less protection from the accelerating impacts of climate change"

Help save the environment and the Earth and let the Ontario government know we are not okay with these cuts especially in the face of the climate disaster we are going to experience if this type of behaviour continues.
