As it stands, teachers in Arizona are unable to resign from their positions, except for at the end of the year, without incurring enormous fines, and most importantly, the threat of having districts go after their teaching certificates. A teacher's certificate is their livelihood. To have that ripped away by a vengeful district is wrong and anti-competitive. The majority of teachers who leave mid-year do so because their district has put them in unreasonable and untenable situations. As such, unhappy teachers become stuck in failing schools and school districts, resulting in lower productivity, lower test scores, and lower achievement. It is time for districts and schools in Arizona to start taking responsibility for their actions. Their unfriendly behavior toward teachers, and competition, has resulted in Arizona scoring 49th nationwide in standardized testing.

As an Arizona teacher dealing with issues with my district, one of the options I considered was breaking my contract and finding new employment, however, I soon learned that this was not an option. If I were to try and do so, the district would likely go after my certification. As a result, I was stuck in a bad contract with no way to fight for my rights as a teacher or worker.

Please help me to change the law and make it illegal for districts and schools to go after teacher certificates.
