As the COVID-19 pediatric cases are on the rise nationwide and all schools are in session, we are as concerning parents opt to believe in science and healthcare professional advice.

Currently, Maricopa county is in a high transmission area with the delta variant spreading at a fast speed.  Per the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) data (Aug 2021), we have 100% increase in new pediatric COVID cases in the past week.  Schools cannot make the mask mandate for the safety of the children due to the new law.  Yet according to the CDC mask guidelines (June 2021), “if you are not fully vaccinated and aged 2 or older, you should wear a mask in indoor public places”.  Since the majority of the school-age children from K-12 are not vaccinated at this time, the CDC (2021) has also recommended, “Masks should be worn indoors by all individuals (age 2 and older) who are not fully vaccinated”, as well as “multiple layered prevention strategies” such as hand sanitization, 3-feet distances, ventilation, and early testing (CDC, 2021).  The Arizona Department of Health Services (2021) matched the CDC guidelines recently. The new law is harming our next generations. A piece of medical protective equipment should not be made political, especially in a pandemic.  Should the law persist, we demand to have a hybrid mitigation plan as an option.

As caring parents who respect scientific data and evidence, we hereby request the Anti-Mask-Mandate law be amended as long as the pandemic is still ongoing.  In addition, we demand the online schooling option to be supported by the state until all children are vaccinated.
