Double train capacity to bring relief to NJ Transit Metropark-Metuchen-Edison commuters

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

Northeast Corridor is the busiest rail line in North America and a very large number of loyal commuters rely on NJ Transit service. Trains stopping at Metropark - Metuchen - Edison stations to / from New York Penn station bring in large revenue for NJ Transit due to enormous demand.
In spite of this, a high percentage of trains stopping at these stations is comprised of single-Decker coaches, instead of double-Decker coaches that some other lines / routes get in much higher percentage during rush hours. This causes extreme inconvenience to passengers, especially elderly and disabled individuals as well as pregnant women, who find it nearly impossible to enter trains. A very large number of commuters to and from these stations have to stand in crowded trains most of the time during AM and PM rush hours. Please see additional evidence by clicking this link.

We request you to double the capacity in order to address current situation and to scale up for upward trend in demand.
Please consider the following ways to address this. You can choose the best of the below or a combination of these approaches to accomplish the end result.
1. Make sure that every single train stopping at Metropark - Metuchen - Edison rail stations during AM and PM rush hours is a double-decker, so as to multiply the capacity by two with the same number of coach cars.
2. Double the frequency of trains stopping at Metropark - Metuchen - Edison rail stations during AM and PM rush hours.
3. Metropark rail station has become a magnet for Newark Penn / New York Penn station-bound commuters in townships nearby (and not so nearby).  This is attributable to its location, bus connections and the largest parking capacity. Commuter demand has dramatically increased over the last few years. Add Metropark as a stop for Express trains not stopping at Metropark during AM and PM rush hours, to accomplish double capacity for Metropark.
According to NJ Transit Facts-at-a-glance document revised in 2016, Metropark ranks #5 in the list of NJ Transit RAIL stations with the highest ridership. Please click link below and refer to bottom left of page 1 for details.
Adding capacity to Metropark will reduce load on existing trains also serving Metuchen and Edison rail stations.

The better the service becomes, the more commuters would prefer using NJ Transit, which will reduce traffic congestion on New Jersey roads and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
