Installation of sidewalks in Albany, Ga

There is a Desperate need for a Sidewalks in Albany, Georgia, specifically within 1.5 miles of every Public School. We are asking for your support by signing this petition to show the importance of these Sidewalks.
Many roads in Dougherty County are not pedestrian friendly. The only way a child can travel down the majority of Albany roads is by walking in the roadway itself or by hiking along a poorly graded, brushy side of the road. Therefore, they put themselves and the moving vehicles in jeopardy.
The transportation system for Dougherty County School System restricts bus pick up to students within 1.5 miles of their zoned school. This requires the students to either walk or be dropped off by car. Many schools do not open their doors for students until 7:00 am. Many parents are not able to transport their children to school either due to scheduled work times, lack of vehicles or any other reason. Keeping this in mind, we are expecting these children to walk, sometimes, 1.5 miles to school on poorly lit roads most without proper walk ways.
Now, as citizens of a community, how can we allow our children, our nieces and nephews, our cousins, our grandchildren and others travel to and from school daily knowing the risk of injury and/or death? Just last year, September 2016, we lost a young child to a car accident while walking to school. While this change is just a start for our community, it is a requirement to keep our children safe. We have to start somewhere. Again, we ask for your support. Please, sign the petition, share with everyone you know. It is for the community, it is for your friends, it is for your family, it is for You! For the Past, For Now, And For The Future.
