  • Ridgeville is a rural area outside of Summerville that has a serious need for early childhood education. Children in this area are afforded the right to have quality child care services. Some members of the Dorchester County Planning and Zoning Board of Directors feel the building project of the daycare should not be done in this area despite the need. At a recent appeal meeting, board members tied with three votes supporting the approval of the construction project and three votes against it.

Those who voted against the center said it needs to be in a different location. the chairman of the board, Wayne Reeves was among those saying that decisions surrounding issues like this would set a precedent in terms of other businesses wanting to move in.

We are petitioning that the need for early childhood education for children in rural areas is made available to these families the same way it is for those who live in the city limits. Early childhood education gives children a positive start to education and has been statistically proven to benefit them in primary and secondary school. If we want all children to be given a fair opportunity toward success, we must make these resources available to their families.

Currently there is no daycare between Summerville and the St. George area. This should not be the case and if there is a means to fix this issue, it should be an easy decision for one to make. The children in Ridgeville community is being left out and not considered. We are asking for your support in working toward an approval for the building of this life changing establishment for our children.

The daycare location is 1284 Ridge Road, Ridgeville, SC.
