Gabby E started this petition to Donovan Catholic and

Silence is Violence.

As devoted members to the Donovan Catholic family, We, Cristiaan Dailey and Gabby Etzel, want to bring attention to the lack of response from our school. During these pressing times, it is salient that the community that has instilled our sense of moral obligation to confront injustice, and equipped us to be active citizens in society, practices what it preaches by supporting the students that are directly impacted by this nationwide social pandemic.

This pandemic is known as systemic racism.

This institution actively promotes a narrative of inclusion and diversity within the student body. Moreover, even recruits students in order to enrich the diversity on campus. We personally have participated in several marketing advertisements to promote this said “diversity,” and to maintain the validity of this narrative, Donovan Catholic must not stay silent in the face of matters that affect the groups that comprise our diverse community. As the number of minority students has increased since our graduation, it is pertinent that the school recognizes its responsibility to make it known that they support and stand alongside these students as they fight to combat marginalization while simultaneously navigating life through adolescence.

As we stated, “Silence is Violence”, and for an institution such as Donovan Catholic to not even mention an issue as significant as the matters that are currently taking place is not only an insult to the students that attend this school, but also evidence of a lack of connection to contemporary issues. As concerned alumni, we implore that leaders in our community take the steps necessary to curate an environment that includes and vocally advocates for all students, especially those who are directly impacted by this social pandemic. We ask you, as dedicated members of this Donovan family, to hold our beloved school accountable and ensure that students and alumni alike feel acknowledged, respected, and heard.

Sign this petition if the message above resonates, and you want to be part of the change necessary to further progress our ever-growing community.
