A unanimous vote by the City Council of Cambridge has given the green light to have a one million square foot warehouse built right on Dickie Settlement Road in the Blair Heritage Conservation Area. This warehouse will disrupt local wildlife, decrease the quality of surrounding soil, and much more.

On May 6, 2021, a meeting was hosted by Broccolini Development to inform local residents about how this development will be built. Residents were under the impression that they would be given an opportunity to negotiate, however this was not the case. Important questions were dismissed by the host without an answer. They also brought some alarming points to the spotlight:

1. The level of noise pollution will be doubled compared to what it used to be.

2. There will only be one metre of space between the warehouse and the road; on top of that, the design of the warehouse and the surrounding landscaping does not fit in with the heritage design.

3. Construction of a three legged roundabout will close off a section of the road.

4. More than 100 trucks will be pulling in and out of the warehouse daily, causing higher traffic congestion.

5. Light pollution will be increased significantly.

6. Truck and traffic studies were NOT done effectively/ properly; the number of trucks that the developers were saying pass through the area was not true.

7. The developers got approval for this building in 2015, residents/ the press had no knowledge of this until now. Why was this done silently and under the table for so many years? Why would the City Council approve of having an INDUSTRIAL building being built in a RESIDENTIAL area? A protected nature reserve on top of that?

These are few of the many alarming points that were brought up. Many other questions were asked, however as mentioned earlier, the questions that residents were most eager to ask were not answered and were tossed aside without being noted.

The goal of this petition is to raise awareness of a protest that Laura Kohlsmith is planning on conducting. The date, time, and location for this protest will be announced in the near future. Please bring masks, signs, and anything else you feel necessary to stay safe, both with the pandemic and with the protesting. Thank you all for your time and effort.
