This petition is to ask Doncaster Council not to sell St James swimming baths and instead return an iconic, well loved and well used building back to its former glory. I and many other local residents grew up using these baths whether it was for swimming lessons, a nice early morning dip or to relax in the Turkish baths with a cup of tea and toast. My Grandma used to tell me how she would cycle over the bridge from Bentley twice a day to come and swim in the baths when she was a child and over the years it has also been used as a cinema, dance hall and music venue where even the Beatles have played. It could be a wonderful part of Doncaster Councils civic quarter vision if restored and fits in with the entertainment aspect. It was well used until the day it closed and I feel it’s just such a shame to lose a building which means a lot to many Doncaster residents.
