Edlington Town Council started this petition to Doncaster Council Highways

This petition calls for a reduction in the speed limit on Broomhouse Lane outside the entrance way to the Pit Wood and for a proper pedestrian crossing being installed.

A Sport England grant is currently being awarded towards the development/enhancement of the Pit Wood with a view to encouraging a greater number of people to visit and enjoy the Pit Wood surroundings. As the Pit Wood Group have invested a lot of time and effort in maintaining and enhancing the visual landscape here, It is common sense that if investment is taking place in the area and greater numbers are being encouraged, that there needs to be a proper and safe crossing point in the immediate vicinity of the entrance, from the other side of the road (main Edlington residential areas) with the road speed limit reduced accordingly to 30mph.

The current speed limit at the entrance point is 60mph which the Town Council believe is unsafe and it should be reduced to 30mph (especially with the request for a crossing to be installed). So the proposal is that the 30mph speed limit along Broomhouse Lane, travelling out of the village heading to Balby, needs to be extended to just beyond the left turn on to Lords Head Lane before it becomes 60mph once again. This is also in close proximity to Polypipe Gate entrance number 2, where many HGV's enter and exit the highway on an ongoing basis and the current 60mph limit makes no sense from a highway safety perspective for other road users and pedestrians.
