Time For Escambia County to Clean Up Its Act
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
No county in the state of Florida dumps more toxic waste than Escambia County. Ascend Performance Materials and International Paper in Cantonment Fl are the main contributors in disposing of more than 37 million pounds of nuclear waste a year. A YEAR.
But where does it go?
The waste from the chemicals these institutions use are injected into wells in the ground, some 1400 ft below the surface. These materials cut through many layers substance, the first being the Sand and Gravel Aquifer. The aquifer is Escambia's main water source.
"Records from disparate corners of the United States show that wells drilled to bury this waste deep beneath the ground have repeatedly leaked, sending dangerous chemicals and waste gurgling to the surface or, on occasion, seeping into shallow aquifers that store a significant portion of the nation's drinking water," ProPublica, a non profit investigative website.
I PROPOSE THESE METHODS BE CLEANED UP. FOR OUR CHILDREN'S SAKE. STOP ASCEND AND INTERNATIONAL PAPER. STOP THE TOXIC DUMPING!
