Whereas, the U.S. military delivered in 1948, during the Berlin Airlift, 4,500 tons of food daily, 3,475 tons of coal and gasoline daily, for one year, to people in need (source); and,

Whereas, the U.S. military, the morning following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, sent 22,000 troops, 33 U.S. military ships, 300 military helicopters, to deliver millions of pounds of foods and supplies (source); and,

Whereas, Puerto Rico has suffered a major catastrophe because of Hurricane Marie and is presently suffering a major crisis without adequate assistance weeks later (source); and,

Whereas, Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. and the residents are American Citizens, who have served in the U.S. Military - 9 of whom were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor (source); therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED:

that the United States should provide the same level of support to Puerto Rico as was provided to Berliners in 1948, and Haitians in 2010, regardless of financial reimbursement.

Currently, Puerto Rico is still in severe need of food supplies, bottled water, diesel fuel, and adequate shelter and the crisis is described as similar to 2003 war-torn Iraq by an Army Corps of Engineers official on the ground in Puerto Rico.
