OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT TRUMP

 Dear Mr. President,

The American people are calling on you to lead and unify the nation by speaking up boldly, clearly and emphatically, against domestic terrorism, against white supremacy, and the heinous racist and violent acts that took place in Charlottesville, VA by white nationalists over the weekend.

It is not enough to say you condemn "bigotry on many sides" when a young 32-year-old woman, Heather Heyer, protesting against racism and white supremacy lost her life by a domestic terrorist; two Virginia state law enforcement officers, Lt. H. Jay Cullen and trooper-pilot, Berke M.M. Bates, also lost their lives trying to protect everyone gathered from hurt, harm or danger, and the right to exercise their First Amendment Right to free speech and gather in peaceful protest.

President Trump, words matter. Our children are watching and learning from you what it means to be a leader of moral conscience, what it means to speak truth to power, and the vital necessity it is for a civil society to stomp out racism, bigotry and xenophobia whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head.

It is not okay to ignore what the American people and the world saw happening in Charlottesville, with the "Alt-right," KKK, Neo-Nazi and other white supremacy group members marching in the night, carrying torches of fire reminiscent of the post Civil War terror of the KKK, the 1960s Civil Rights Movement; and wearing Swastikas and chanting slogans of the Hitler Era, "You will not replace us and Blood and Soil."

These times call for a leader to speak up loudly and definitively.

We, the people, who believe in a nation "of, for and by the people," will not go back to a horrific time when racial violence was legally sanctioned and condoned in American society.

Simply put, Mr. President, the American people are calling on you to lead.
