The United States invasion in Afghanistan occurred after the September 11 attacks in late 2001. It has been 17 years since the war began. In September 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The United States believed that Osama Bin Laden who was the head of al-Qaeda was the man behind these attacks. There was a lot of international pressure on the Afghan leaders to hand over Osama Bin Laden. When the Taliban didn't do this, the United States decided they would use their armed forces. In October 2001, the US began bombing Afghanistan. They targeted bin Laden's al-Qaeda fighters and also the Taliban. This U.S - Afghanistan conflict has been going on since 2001 and hasn’t stopped until now.

Many people died caused by the war and there are also many refugees. As of July 27, 2018, there have been 2,372 U.S. military deaths in the War in Afghanistan. 1,856 of these deaths have been the result of hostile action. 20,320 American service members have also been wounded in action during the war. In addition, there were 1,720 U.S. civilian contractor fatalities. This war has had a very crucial impact and made hundreds thousands of the civilian’s lives to become the victims.

Therefore, I believe that reconciliation is the solution for the U.S war in Afghanistan. Reconciliation is the answer to end the war. Reconciliation is about restoring the right relationship between people who have been enemies. The main idea on how reconciliation works is that by placing together the main parties that are involved within the conflict in a peaceful meeting. In this meeting, both parties are to discuss one another’s understanding and also demands towards the opposing party. This way, the problem could be solved without violence and bloodshed. Thus, the law that needs to be reinforced is the Declaration on the Right of People to Peace. I believe, with reconciliation, U.S and Afghanistan can build a peaceful situation and so the war stops. Please do realize how many victims resulted from this war, the suffering of the Afghan people and the fact that those Afghan innocent people must go through this everyday is heartbreaking.
