Gun Violence Walkout for New York

We are certain you have been informed about the Parkland Shooting which occurred on February 14, 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. It was a tragic event and cowardly act that took the lives of many innocent students and sent a ripple of fear through the school community on a nationwide scale. The brave and weary survivors of this traumatic event have protested for gun reform laws to be implemented in order to protect and prevent such catastrophic events. However, the actions and responses by the Republican Party and firearm advocates have lead us to believe that they have more interest in firearms than the safety of the people of the United States.
We, The Kids of New York, as a part of the school community, would like to participate in a 17 minute “Walkout” on March 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM to not only protest for gun reform, but to also honor and mourn for the 17 individuals lost on February 14, 2018. The government has not implemented action regarding gun control after Sandy Hook, other school shootings, and now Parkland; as a part of a school community, we are taking action into our own hands.
We urge you, not only support our decision, but to participate in this cause. Spread the word to everyone about our walkout so that the lives of everyone who died at a school shooting do not go in vain. The 44th President of the United States Barack Obama once stated “Let us all remember we are all part of one American family. We are united in common values, and that includes belief in equality under the law, basic respect for public order and the right if peaceful protest.”
