Get the U.S. government to make a change on gun laws.

Hi, my name is Ben Lable and I'm an 11-year-old who lives in Hong Kong, however, I am a U.S. citizen. One of the things that devastates me about the U.S, is the number of kids that are killed as a result of school shootings every year. This is a major thing that delays my family from moving back home. School shootings are a ginormous problem in the modern day world. Over the years lots of people have lost their lives at the hands of another human. Families have had to endure unspeakable tragedies. This happens mainly in the U.S. because of one thing. The gun laws aren’t strict enough. This has to change.
Being a student living in Hong Kong I don’t fear going to school and getting shot, but for many kids in the U.S. this is a reality. No kid should be scared of school, because it is a supposed to be a safe and protected environment. Unfortunately, thousands of children in America are scared about going to school because of the reoccurrence of the shootings and the fact it could happen to them. Hong Kong and Singapore are some of the safest places in the world because they don’t allow guns. I strongly believe the U.S. and all countries should follow this example. The fact that no laws have been changed recently, shows how ignorant the government is and makes it seem like they don't care about the safety of their citizens.
Don’t you want future generations to live in happiness and not fear? Is this what we want people to see America as? Do you want this to happen to your children? As a U.S. citizen, I definitely don't want my country to be viewed like this. I don't want to see the same catastrophes happen over and over again. We should be paving the way to a new safer society. There are many things that can happen to prevent these shootings from occurring so often. Stricter background checks can be made mandatory by the government which would prohibit people with any criminal history being able to access guns. In my opinion, it should be illegal for anyone besides the military or special forces to be allowed to carry firearms. However, a good first step would be to ban civilian access to automatic guns.
Since 2012 138 students have been killed in school shootings and 438 have been injured. 138 people who had their whole life ahead of them had their life taken through an act that could have been prevented. They were killed because the government doesn’t recognize this is a major problem in the U.S. and despite marching for better gun laws nothing has changed since 1999 on the day of Columbine. We still stand here hoping this never happens again, but until the laws are changed these events will continue.
