Federal laws inhibit cannabis/marijuana companies from getting the access to banks that they need to operate. In an article from CNN earlier this year, they stated that only 1 in 30 banks will open accounts for these companies and local businesses due to statutes that require banks to disclose potential criminal and illegal activities. While these businesses are following local and state law, they are still breaking federal law.

What I hope to accomplish isn't to completely legalize cannabis regardless of what individual states, but to allow the cannabis industry to flower by removing outdated federal statutes. In the US, all but 17 states have laws that legalize cannabis either medically or for recreational use. Those 17 states would be unaffected by the decriminalization of marijuana, while the states that have legalized it would see massive improvements in the industry as well as increased tax revenue.
