Voice your strong support for economic opportunity for all, including the approximately 70 million Americans who have some form of criminal record, by "Banning the Box." Ban the Box legislation delays criminal history questions until later in the hiring process which allows employers to properly and objectively assess candidates based on their qualifications and merits.
We can no longer disqualify full participation in society to the millions whose debt to society has already been paid. Doing so is not only bad for the individuals effected. It is devastating to our economy and to the communities and families who desperately need role models who are gainfully employed. It is critical that we allow Americans who've paid their debt to society the opportunity to earn a second chance, to earn an identity, and to earn their dignity.
As the "jobs president", this legislation must be viewed as a key underpinning to unlocking the economic potential of the millions of Americans unfairly exiled from the labor market, and as a consequence, society at large as a result of criminal records in which their debt to society has already been paid.
