My husband recently passed from Liver Disease  . During my research I only found one hospital that was willing to do a transplant before the standard  6 months sobriety period  ...of any substance even cigarettes. Most of these patients suffer from mentall illnesse and  addiction  or past addictions.  My husband suffered from  both  . His Dad had committed  suicide and he blamed himself and to mask the pain he self medicatied but had been clean for 5 years  accept for alcohol  . My point is how did they come up with this time frame ? Why are they allowed to play God  ? Most of these patients sadly lose their lives right at 3 months !  Sadly,  my husband was so extremely sick that his body couldn't take a transplant but had they done it sooner maybe just maybe he would still be here .  Patients with this awful disease  need lots of love ,  and  support from their family, friends , medical team and lots of counseling  . They need counseling to help them understand the precious gift they have been given . It is a second chance at life and the guilt they may experience from that . I know some may not value the second chance they have been given or fall short due to their mental illness or addictions but their are so many that will take the necessary  steps  to aid in their recovery and be able to spend more precious time with their families  ! Please help me by signing this petition and passing what I call Bill's Law ...to change certain lengthy  requirements for transplant recipients. My husband  was an Amazing man . We had a wonderful marriage , 6 kids and 3 Granddaughters  . Our youngest just turned 8 on July 9th and his Daddy passed July 20th  just 8 days before his 45th Birthday.  He was way to young !
