Honorable President of the United States of the America.
Mr. Donald Trump.
Washington, D.C.

Honorable President Trump,

I write to express my great concern over the significant hardship that many Venezuelans, currently stranded in the US, due to the Venezuelan Regime closing the borders of the country since the onset of COVID19, are suffering.

The Venezuelan Embassy in the US, led by Carlos Vecchio, has been trying, without success, to negotiate with Maduro's Regime, for ways to allow us to return to our home country and be treated respecting our human rights. As you know, Maduro’s Regime is not following the appropriate human rights protocols to manage the pandemic crisis and closed the borders arbitrary, considering all nationals returning a biological arm to be used to destabilize his regime. Thus, in the case, he opens the borders, our health & lives are in severe risk if we come back to Venezuela. At the same time, many of us have to manage extreme conditions, due to the fact that our initial temporary stay in the US has been prolonged and we do not have the financial means to cover the expenses incurred.

A humanitarian action that could significantly alleviate the suffering of all of us stranded in the US, would be the approval of TPS. We are desperate to be able to perform legal work in order to obtain income to cover our lodging, food, transportation, medical expenses, while the humanitarian & political situation in Venezuela stabilized. We do not want to be a social burden to this country, on the contrary, we are willing to perform any legal and honest activity permitted under united states legislation.

This extreme condition and suffering has been highlighted by Human Rights Watch, and published in their web page on April 15, 2020, https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/04/15/venezuelans-us-need-urgent-temporary-protection where they also consider that approval of TPS could strongly alleviate our current status as aliens stranded with no lawful means to support ourselves.

As indicated in the USCIS official page:
“The Secretary of Homeland Security may designate a foreign country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country's nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately.  USCIS may grant TPS to eligible nationals of certain countries (or parts of countries), who are already in the United States.  Eligible individuals without nationality who last resided in the designated country may also be granted TPS.
The Secretary may designate a country for TPS due to the following temporary conditions in the country:
Ongoing armed conflict (such as civil war)
An environmental disaster (such as earthquake or hurricane), or an epidemic
Other extraordinary and temporary conditions
During a designated period, individuals who are TPS beneficiaries or who are found preliminarily eligible for TPS upon initial review of their cases (prima facie eligible):
Are not removable from the United States
Can obtain an employment authorization document (EAD)
May be granted travel authorization……….”

Given all the above, we respectfully request your consideration to approve TPS for Venezuelan nationals in the extreme and unprecedented condition explained above.
I am at your disposal to meet or further clarify what has been expressed in this letter.

Many thanks.
Your Truly,

Adriana Arraiz
