Madelyn Kiernan started this petition to President Donald J. Trump and

It’s Monday and you sit down at your desk in the front of the classroom. The teacher begins to talk as you take notes on the African American Jungle. She turns off the bright lights so that you can watch a short video clip about the topic. The video lasts about 3 minutes and before you know it the lights are back on again. They start to give you a headache. You can’t focus in class and you feel like you won’t be able to pass your exams that are coming up in a few days. You continue on to your next class with that same throbbing headache and you just know it’s going to be a long drowsy day. Would you really like to be like this. Having a headache every time you try to learn? Focusing on your work in class would be so hard with a headache. The bright lights are also sending you to the eye doctor because you are beginning to lose your 20/20 vision. Nobody wants this and nobody should have to go through class with these lights that aren’t helping you to learn.

First of all, these bright lights are causing kids to go home with horrible headaches. Intense lights are not meant for students to be learning in. It’s not just the bright lights that’s bothering us students, it’s the amount of lights put into each classroom. All the lights in each classroom are spaced away from each other by a couple of feet. Imagine 20 lights in one classroom. Why do we need all those lights when in our bedroom we just need one much smaller light and we can see just fine? There is absolutely no reason for us to have such bright lights causing many kids headaches. When you do get a headache it’s harder for you to focus in class. It’s also not comfortable for the human and is not healthy. Lots of headaches can lead to serious health problems which is not good. This is why lights should be decreased and less should be placed in classrooms.

Furthermore, bright lights also cause bad eye sight. When these lights are shining down at you, your eyes get pretty tired. It’s not like us students can just close our eyes. We have to open them to learn and attempt to stay focused. When the lights shine in our eyes we can’t see as well causing kids in the back of classrooms to have to come to the front to read whatever is on the board. In fact, I have experienced this myself and noticed the same things with other kids. Yes, it could be that they just need glasses or something, but that cause leading up to the necessity of glasses could be because of these bright lights.
Others could state that these lights are not harming students in anyways, but one could argue that these lights are causing kids to have bad experiences at school. These bright lights are causing student to have terrible headaches and also have to go to the eye doctor. You can help by signing this petition and by spreading awareness around your school! I hope this has changed your opinion if you thought that the lights don’t harm students.
