What is the Patriot Act?

The Patriot Act bill of 2001 was a bill made after the terrorist attacks of 911. The government took advantage of how upset and hurt everyone was after this incredibly traumatic event and advertised the Patriot Act. This bill directly violates our first and fourth amendment right, and excuses racial profiling against Muslims and anyone who speaks out against this bill. 

What rights does this bill violate?

This bill violates our fourth ammendment right that the government cannot conduct a search without obtaining a warrant or even providing a probable cause for the said accusation. The government is also not required to provide notice when a person has been investigated or searched.

This bill also violates our first ammendment right of freedom of speech by prohibiting the victims of these random searches to tell anyone about the search order placed upon them. This also violates the first ammendment because it authorizes the FBI to investigate people solely for EXERCISING that right by simply searching the internet or making a phone call deemed "suspicious".

How does this promote racial profiling?

Like stated above the FBI can investigate anyone based on nothing, not even reasonable suspicion. It could be the activities they partake in, the religion they practice, who they know, or what they look like. This pretty much gives a pass to any type of racial profiling, particularly muslims. There is no type of judicial oversight placed within these investigations. People who are investigated get no right to a free trial, lawyers, or any basic right in given to you in the court of law.

Why should I care about this?

Even if you don't care about racial profiling, with this bill you give up your right to privacy on the internet or with any type of data because that can be collected at any time to be investigated because of this bill. This bill DIRECTLY disregards the constitution and is not what America is about. Sign this petition and make a change. This has gone on for far too long.
