Ever since the beginning of the 20th century, the United States federal government has constantly been expanding its powers into many aspects of American life. Among these is the constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms which has been subjected to repeated injury by the United States Congress as well as the White House. In 1934 The National Firearms Act (NFA) was passed in an attempt to reduce crime at the federal level but failed to do so by imposing a tax and creating a registry on machine guns, suppressors, short barreled shotguns and rifles. This was largest infringement on the second amendment with the justification that Congress had the right to impose taxes on certain goods. Repealing this law would serve to benefit the American people as it would help give back their rights that they have the right to exercise without fear of imprisonment simply for owning a certain type of firearm and would work to lessen the fear and myths surrounding firearms. Without repealing this law the United States federal government will continue to pass laws that will continue to infringe upon the constitutional rights of every American citizen which would only make the country become a less secure and free place to live which would be to the detriment of everyone.
