Repeal S.993, The Restore Internet Freedom Act NOW
Why this petition matters
S.993, or The Restore Internet Freedom Order, reverses the effects of a legislative bill passed in 2015. The 2015 bill in question is the infamous "Net Neutrality" bill. This bill placed internet service providers under title 2 of the Communications Act of 1934, which allows the FCC to place restrictions on the internet service providers that protect the customers. Ajit Pai, head of the FCC chair in 2016 vowed to destroy Net Neutrality and replace it with 'Light-Touch Regulation'. This 'Light-Touch Regulation' may actually harm consumers, since it would give free reign to internet service providers to slow down your internet speeds, create internet fast lanes for premium users, and block certain websites that you like from being viewed. We must reverse this order and treat all data on the internet equally. If you believe in free information for all and the expansion of knowledge through the use of communication, please sign this petition and support the cause to bring back the REAL free and open internet!
