I am petitioning the President of the United States and all Governors to establish a commission to study current police processes and tactics, and take suggestions from the public on ways to responsibly enforce laws, arrest suspects, and whether police should be involved in enforcing “victimless” crimes. The concept of policing in this country has become distorted, causing problems for communities and law enforcement. We are way past the time for a neutral and in depth look at how our police operate, when they should operate, and how to manage the mistakes that get made. The goal of the commission should be to review past practices, current practices, review recommendations, and provide a set of well researched policy suggestions to the President and Governors for enactment nationwide.
