Although the decision to make purchasing tobacco illegal for people under 21 does not necessarily affect me, it is obvious that the decision was made simply to exercise control. This bill explicitly includes military personnel and people who were 18, 19, or 20 when the bill was passed. At 18, you are legally required to sign up for the draft. You are also subjected to taxes and you are able to be tried as an adult. You can die for your country, but you cannot drink or smoke a cigarette. However, this is not my main source of unhappiness with this bill. This bill makes it obvious that its intention is to control. The Government is not doing this to "look out for you," they're doing it to see if anyone will push back. It's a test, and one of the many rights slowly being taken away from us. Before long, the right to assembly and peaceful protest will also be taken away, or the age to do so increased. "Innocent until proven guilty" no longer exists. We need to, as Americans, fight back. There was no vote on this bill. We need to show that we still have a voice, and that we will fight for our rights. I don't know if I can do much with a petition, but hey, it's more than I've seen so far.

Not to support young people harming themselves in this way- but to show that we will not stand to have our rights taken away, even the small ones.
