Re-Entering The Paris Climate Agreement
On June 1, 2017, U.S. president Donald Trump announced that the United States would be withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement as soon as they are eligible to. The Paris Climate Agreement was ratified by 187 countries in 2016, including the U.S. under the Obama administration. The goal of the agreement was to limit the amount of greenhouse gas emissions released into Earth's atmosphere.
The United States withdrawing from the agreement is a big problem for the whole world. The U.S. is the second largest distributor in greenhouse gas emissions in the whole world, only behind China. In fact, the U.S. releases over 14 percent of the worlds greenhouse gas emissions each year.
When president Trump announced the withdrawal, he claimed that the agreement "Undermined (the U.S.) economy," and that, "(the Paris Accord) puts (the U.S.) at a permanent disadvantage," though, he didn't give any evidence for why he believes this. The president has also expressed many times that he believes that climate change is a hoax with tweets such as, "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make the U.S. manufacturing non-competitive," even though science has proved many times now otherwise.
