Petition for the American Government to Make Rape a Capital Offense!

Petition for the American Government to Make Rape a Capital Offense!
Why this petition matters
Rapists tend to receive notoriously light prison sentences, especially in the United States of America. Some of them may learn their lesson, but those that don’t continue to ruin lives, and some even take them. I care about this because I don’t like seeing innocent people have to give up their person for someone else’s negligence. Therefore, I would like to make sure that no rapist shall get the chance to taste freedom again.
First off, it would give closure to the victims. Someone who has committed a violent crime only to roam the streets once again is terrifying and uncalled for. It also doesn’t change the fact that the victims are scared for themselves and others. If we ensure that such offenders are never set free, we could give closure to rape victims and their families because they won’t be able to hurt anyone else in any fashion.
Secondly, it would make the American public safer. America has had issues with crime for the longest time, including violent crime. If we lock away rapists, it would cut back on repeat offenders, which is a major factor in the national crime rate. I’m not at all saying rape and other sex-related crimes will magically be resolved with new laws in place, because as long as humanity exists, crime will exist with us; however, a zero-tolerance policy towards matters like this would keep these offenders where they belong.
Finally, it would serve an example for those who are considering such offenses. In my personal opinion, harsh crimes should carry harsh sentences. Rape is one of the, if the harshest crime that can be committed, and therefore, should be dealt with using heavy punishment. “Punishment must fit the crime,” as the old saying goes. We’ll never fulfill this statement, but it shouldn’t stop us from executing sensible justice.
Therefore, rape should be made a capital crime in the United States. It will provide closure to victims, cut back on repeat offenders, make a safer nation, execute sensible justice, and would prevent some from doing the same crime. You will not be penalized for not signing, but if you do, I hope you’re fighting for a cause you believe in, and thank you for doing so.
