According to the Washington Examiner, “ Nearly half of Americans live paycheck to paycheck” A Bank survey also stated that near majority of Americans, 49%, are living paycheck to paycheck, according to a new survey by the First National Bank of Omaha. The survey also found that 53% of respondents do not have an emergency fund that covers at least three months of expenses. With that being said a majority of the populations primary sources of income have been halted due to COVID-19 and it’s Safe at Home initiative. The options that have been rewarded to us Americans are, an eviction moratorium and a rent freeze. It has also been said that the government will be rewarding not all but qualifying citizens with an one time stimulus check of $1,200. All of which do not statistically benefit the majority of the people in this nation. If majority of the population is living pay check to pay check and/or does not have an emergency fund to cover his or her living during this pandemic. Also what happens to the other percent of citizens that do not receive the stimulus checks? How does the government expect for them to pay unpaid rent for the stint of this pandemic, especially without the government knowledge of how long this pandemic will last. If the government were to pass a rent suspension/ forgiveness during this pandemic it will rid US citizens of the financial burden of rent that majority do not have the funds to pay. This also will help family focus their limited funds on needed things such as food and other primary resource needed to make it through this tough time.
