No More Plastic!

No More Plastic!

I feel as if we are killing our environment slowly. Not only is plastic threatening turtles, But also the earth. Chlorinated plastic can release harmful chemicals into the surrounding soil, which can then seep into groundwater or other surrounding water sources and also the ecosystem of the world. This can cause serious harm to the species that drink the water. Toxic chemicals leach out of plastic and are found in the blood and tissue of nearly all of us. Exposure to them is linked to cancers, birth defects, impaired immunity, endocrine disruption and other ailments. It's also affecting turtles. The plastics get trapped in their stomach, which prevents them from properly swallowing food. Also, many sea turtle rehabilitation facilities commonly deal with “bubble butts,” turtles that float as a result of trapped gas caused by harmful decomposition of marine debris inside a turtle's body. If we get all stores to stop selling plastic, then replace it with materials that aren't harmful to the earth such as metal. If we also get manufacture companies to stop making these products, then they wouldn't get shipped to stores. Also, over 100 million marine animals die each year due to marine debris, according to the Sea Turtle Conservancy. And more than half of the world's sea turtles have ingested some plastic or human trash, according to a University of Queensland study.
