As COVID-19 spreads across the United States, healthcare workers are selflessly serving on our frontlines to fight against this unseen and unprecedented enemy. Without adequate resources, healthcare workers are risking their personal and their families' health and safety to protect fellow Americans.

Considering that our healthcare workers are most needed to fight the war against COVID-19, legislators should introduce bi-partisan legislation that would create a modern G.I. Bill for our healthcare workers (signed into law by President Roosevelt to provide various benefits to World War II veterans). The movement behind this bill #MDGIbill.

This bill would include three essential protections for healthcare workers:

1. Debt forgiveness for education loans (i.e. undergraduate education, medical school and medical training programs)

2. Healthcare coverage for life

3. Monthly financial assistance

For workers who develop health-related issues, or have lost their lives as a result of their work during the COVID-19 crisis, these benefits would extend to their respective life partners and dependents.

While the majority of us 'shelter in place', essential workers should also receive benefits such as, but limited to, annual tax credits and access to healthcare.

It is imperative that we act swiftly to give peace of mind to current healthcare workers and those considering joining the frontlines, while also creating common sense protections for future public health crises.

If this bill were to be signed into law, it would be the first national protection for a volunteer army. That is monumental during a time of domestic crisis.

As an acknowledgement, appreciation and immediate protection for our healthcare workers, please sign and share this petition now.
