Give the Dixie Chicks the Presidential Medal of Freedom
The Dixie Chicks were unfairly cancelled in 2003 for speaking out about the Iraq War and George W. Bush.
They were cancelled and blacklisted from the Country Music Industry for the following statement:
"We don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas."
Not only does their music absolutely slap beyond belief, but they were absolutely right about the Iraq war. It was a disastrous and mismanaged war marked by violence that took the live's of thousands of Iraqi civilians as well as US soldiers.
Independent of personal opinions about the war, one of the most iconic and influential country girl groups should not face cancellation simply for expressing an opinion that does not fit with the stereotypical caricature of a country star. This is an affront to the American people and our revered tenet of freedom of speech. It is only fair that we make it up to the Dixie Chicks by awarding them the Presidential Medal of Freedom, or another highly praised national award, for being forced into a 14 year hiatus after being blacklisted from the industry for speaking out for what they believed in. The Dixie Chicks will continue to be a part of our national history and have influenced our political discourse. I'm not saying that the Dixie Chicks are directly responsible for celebrities speaking out against Trump and his goons en masse, but what else could it be? The Dixie Chicks walked so Taylor Swift could run.
Please consider joining me in saying thank you to the Dixie Chicks not only for their entire discography of slapper after slapper, but for their brave contribution to American civil society by signing this petition.
